A special gathering calls for a fabulous table. So just in time for the end of year festivities I raided my Inspiration Box to share my best ideas for creating a warm, inviting space along with a few holiday traditions and memories.
MY FAVOURITE FESTIVE TRADITION... has to be designing my tree! The cost of decorating trees has become pretty exorbitant so lately I have taken to recycling - which can be a lot of fun!
I was about to throw out an old silk ficus tree passed on to me by my daughter - covered with blue/silver/pale green baubles it now takes centre stage as my 2016 festive tree!
Of course decorating a tree is just not the same without the obligatory Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton duo of Christmas music! Another not so unique tradition!
On a more serious note I do play a thankful game when creating my tree (a great tradition to start especially if you have children around as it gets everyone thinking about gratitude). I write down everything I am thankful for, (at least 12) pop them in a bowl and without looking select one for each month of the forthcoming year. These gratitude notes then get pasted in my diary and remind me throughout the year what I appreciate the most in my life.
MY TABLE TOP...decorating doesn't have to be expensive. Use your imagination...and maybe Pinterest! I painted one wall in my dining area with blackboard paint and have great fun writing up the menu and festive wishes on the wall for all to see and read when entering the room. A great conversation piece!
THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THIS TIME OF YEAR IS NOT WHAT IS ON THE MENU, OR HOW MUCH WAS SPENT ON THE GIFTS - BUT RATHER TO COOK AND SPEND TIME TOGETHER...THAT IS WHAT MEMORIES ARE MADE OF!
